During a conversation with Canal+ Sport, Vincent Aboubakar, the captain of the Indomitable Lions, has opened up about the events that unfolded in the Lion's den throughout the FIFA 2022 World Cup campaign in Qatar. Aboubakar revealed that Andre Onana's departure from the team during the tournament was a result of his disrespectful behavior towards coach Rigobert Song during a training session. According to Aboubakar, Onana would frequently challenge and talk back to the coach whenever given instructions, eventually leading to Song asking him to leave. Aboubakar confesses that even now, he finds it difficult to understand why Song made that decision, but the primary reason was Onana's lack of respect towards the coach.
“In life, you can’t be too comfortable everywhere. You must learn to adapt… In football, anytime to do a negative action, the people note it and wait for you to stumble so they can use it on you… but honestly, Andre Onana needs to return, Cameroon needs him, he is a great goalkeeper with a very bright future ahead of him” – Aboubakar Added.
However, it's worth noting that Onana has been in excellent form for his current club, Inter Milan, and has maintained a clean sheet throughout the UEFA Champions League campaign. He is now preparing to face Manchester City in the finals on June 10, 2023. If Inter Milan emerges as the champions, Onana will become the second Cameroonian footballer to lift the prestigious title, following in the footsteps of Samuel Eto'o, who achieved this feat during the 2009/2010 season with the Nerazzurri.
